Sofia Kim

Teaching Artist


Korean-American violinist and Los Angeles native, Sofia Kim, is currently a doctoral candidate at Indiana University who enjoys a varied and diverse musical career. Her quartet formerly held the Kuttner residency at IU and was invited to Bonn, Germany for a week-long residency at the Beethovenhaus, performing at the Kammermusiksaal and working closely with scholars. Sofia has participated in numerous festivals including the Aspen Music Festival, the Banff Centre, the International Chamber Orchestra of Puerto Rico, Colorado College Music Festival, Great Mountains Music Festival, and the Chautauqua Music Festival. Prior to attending IU, she graduated with high honors from Northwestern University where she studied with Almita Vamos. Other former teachers include Simin Ganatra and Henry Gronnier. Sofia is also an avid educator and has taught at Northwestern University’s String Academy and Indiana University’s String Academy.
