Eric Shetzen

Double bassist Eric Shetzen maintains a multi-faceted career as a performer, teacher, and recording artist. He received both his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at the Juilliard School in New York City and for three years served as Principal Bass of the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra in Osaka, Japan. He also spent several seasons as a Fellow in the New World Symphony, America’s Orchestral Academy directed by Michael Tilson Thomas. An avid chamber musician, Eric has collaborated with the Lyris String Quartet, Salastina Music Society, violinists Maxim Vengerov and Jennifer Koh, and conductors Lorin Maazel and James Conlon. His festival appearances include the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, Incontri in Terra di Siena Festival, Castleton Festival, and the PRISMA Festival. Eric now performs as a freelance bassist in Los Angeles where he has been featured on several distinguished contemporary concert series such as Jacaranda Music, the LA Phil’s Noon to Midnight Festival, the Ojai Festival, and the Hear/Now Music Festival. Eric has also performed in the bass sections of various Southern California orchestras including the LA Opera Orchestra, Santa Barbara Symphony, Long Beach Symphony, Pasadena Symphony, and the New West Symphony.
When Eric is not performing on stage, he can be found teaching his studio of private bass students or recording the music of Hollywood’s most iconic composers for film and television. Eric looks forward to returning to his hometown of Scottsdale, AZ every winter to perform with the Arizona MusicFest Orchestra.
